I recommend playing around with the /settings prompt and tinkering with the options available.

I usually cycle between versions i.e. Midjourney 4, Midjourney 5, and Niji 5.

I also usually set "Style" to low - it helps me retain my own style more independently from influence of Midjourney's data. But setting this higher can be in your best interest if you are not using image prompts of your own designs.

And on that point, I recommend including links to images when using the /imagine prompt as that can help inform the style and direction you're aiming for.
I also enjoy using the /blend prompt for more aimless experimentation. The outputs from repeatedly blending images together can be very novel and stimulating.
