I agree language is powerful, and good use of grammar makes meaning more precise. At the same time, writing is a lossy compression of the full bandwidth of human communication: local, auditory, visual, pheromone. When discussing charged topics, words on  on a screen can arrive some distance from their intended sentiment or even meaning -- something that has happened to me, on a few occasions, even with family and friends, not to mention digital citizens.

imo the game is to not take things personally to the extent possible. Even this is harder in the digital realm, when dealing with disembodied avatars : a kind of road rage effect, where the anon does not stir the same feelings of guilt as the present human person, and therefore does not provoke our best behavior
